Mr. James' Anthropology students were offered a unique opportunity to participate in an extensive cross-cultural survey of sacred art. In many respects, the activities presented to the students closely resembled, on a reduced scale, the kind of ethnographic work conducted by professional anthropologists.Students learned about Tibetan Buddhist Mandalas, Navajo sand paintings, and southern Idaho rock art in the form of Shoshone pictographs. Mr. James chose to focus on the similarities between these geographically and culturally disparate art forms, and with the help of presentation software, students were able to make important connections... |
