Fun With Math?

Ever wonder what a fractal is, need some help, or are you just plain curious?  Sit back and relax as you explore some of the amazing (yes!) sites below.

A Mathematical Journey Character writing in book - animated gif.Through Time

Visit:  http://nunic.nu.edu/~frosamon/history/math.html

This site will take you to an interactive history of mathematics.  Travel through time by visiting some of the links.  Make sure you check out Pascal and Archimedes and the role they each played in mathematics history.

Online Mathematical Applications
Sunflower.
Visit the Plus Magazine site and find out everything you wanted to know about Fibonacci numbers.

Visit:  http://www.math.utah.edu/
~alfeld/Archimedes/Archimedes.html

Scroll down the page and try out the applet that demonstrates how Archimedes was able to prove his theory about the value of pi.  What is pi?  Check out http://witcombe.sbc.edu/earthmysteries/EMPi.html for the full story.

Mathematics and Music
Music scroll.Click on the picture to hear music developed using the sequence from Pascal's Triangle.
Visit The Sound of Mathematics and listen to more mathematical music.  The creator of this site has used algorithms to take well known mathematical functions, equations, models, and values to create very pleasant-sounding music.

For some more interesting mathematics and musical connections visit:  http://mathandmusic.tripod.com/other.htmCreate your own version of Pascal's Triangle at this interactive site:  http://www.cecm.sfu.ca/organics/papers/granville/

Mathematics and Art
Mathematical sculpture.Visit the Gallery of Mathematics and Art and take a tour of the beautiful artwork that results when you combine mathematics with art.  This site is part of a project to bring together mathematicians from Hewlett Packard's Basic Research Institute (BRIMS) with artists in an attempt to portray the connection between art and math through the Mathematics and Art Project.

Fun Facts For Kids!

Click on the elementary and secondary link to find out about many issues involving students just like you at NCES's Education Information for students across the nation

Fractals
Fractal.Try a visit to the snowflake fractal applet, just for fun.   Move the point around and experiment with the number of iterations and points to create some really extreme fractals.

Don't know what a fractal is?  Don't worry.  You will before the year is over.
Take a look at some of the awesome fractals at this site:  Fractals

Mad Math Fun Facts
