Instructor E-Mail Response Time

I typically respond to e-mail twice per day Monday through Friday during the semester. Exceptions to this rule occur when there is a a holiday, BSU break, or during other unavoidable situations that sometimes come up (e.g. MLK day, spring break, power failure, out of town presenting a paper, etc.). If you send an e-mail during the week you should typically have a reply within 24 hours unless it is late Friday or the weekend. I catch up on weekend e-mail on Mondays. If you do not received a reply to your e-mail within a reasonable period of time please send it again. Sometimes e-mail is captured by SPAM filters, is addressed incorrectly, or just simply does not make it through. Also, check your own e-mail filters that screen out junk mail. In the past, my replies to students have sometimes been filtered out and they did not receive them until they checked the junk e-mail box.

Preparing the Portfolio for Submission

The portfolio must be entirely online where it can be accessed by any Edtech faculty member. You may use your EdTech2 site, an e-portfolio site, or any other appropriate online space to create the portfolio.

The basic portfolio template is available here: http://edtech2.boisestate.edu/snelsonc/portfolio.html However, you may opt to oganize your in a different way. That is permitted as long as the requirements are met. Your portfolio must include: (1) A video presentation, (2) reflection paper, and (3) a "map evidence to standards" piece that links from the standard to each artifact.

Portfolio Scoring Rubrics

There are two rubrics used to score the portfolio.

1. Self, peer, and instructor review rubric: Use this rubric in class to evaluate your portfolios. You will review your own and one other person's portfolio using this rubric. The instructor will provide each of you with a third review using this rubric.

2. Faculty review rubric. This is a shorter version of the rubric used in class. It is used by a faculty committee to evaluate your final portfolio.

Portfolio Final Grade Scale
Grade How it is Earned
P 70% or greater on the portfolio and completion of both self and peer review
F Below 70% on the portfolio
I Incomplete granted only with departmental approval

Course Schedule

This course is divided into five parts:

Part 1—Assemble the Portfolio: Review course syllabi and collect all assignments completed during the master’s program.  Document how peer and instructor feedback was used to make improvements.  Map all assignments to AECT standards.  Organize all assignments and documentation on a Website.  A reflection piece must be included to explain how the portfolio provides evidence of your professional growth and learning in the Master of Educational Technology Program. The reflection piece includes a video and a paper.

Part 2—Self, Peer, and Instructor Review of Portfolios: Use a rubric to review your own portfolio and another person's portfolio. The instructor reviews all portfolios and provides feedback.

Part 3—Prepare for Submission: Make revisions to the portfolios after receiving peer and instructor feedback. Prepare the final version of the portfolio to be submitted to graduate faculty for review.  All portfolio documents and supporting materials must be online.

Part 4—Formal Faculty Review: A committee of three graduate faculty will review each portfolio and decide if it passes or fails. The committee will be composed of the portfolio instructor, advisor, and another faculty member.  In the situation where the advisor and portfolio instructor is the same person then two faculty members will be selected for that student’s committee.  Each committee member will receive links to the portfolios that they will review.  The committee members will review the portfolios and provide written feedback along with recommendations for pass or fail.  Students will be notified of committee decisions.  Feedback will be provided to make corrections to the portfolios.

Part 5—Final Revisions: Students will use the committee feedback to make final revisions of the portfolio.  Committee members are provided with an opportunity to check revisions and determine if they are acceptable for a passing portfolio.

What Happens if the Portfolio Fails?
If a student fails the portfolio a letter is sent to the EDTECH Department Chair requesting another chance.  If approved, an incomplete is given. The incomplete grade must be resolved the following semester.  If permission is not granted to retry or the student fails the portfolio a second time then the final grade for the portfolio becomes an F.
