Financial Aid Opportunities

Points to ponder
Federal student loans are available only to students enrolled in degree-granting programs, such as our Master's degree. Graduate certificates are not considered degree-granting programs for federal student loan purposes. However, if you are simultaneously enrolled in a master's degree and certificate program, you will have eligibility for financial aid.

Students getting financial aid must register for at least six credits per semester. Summer is not considered a semester, so federally funded students may take fewer than six credits in the summer, or they can even take the summer off without penalty.

Other requirements
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or citizens of U.S. protectorates, or other non-citizens who possess a valid Social Security number. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Most teachers qualify, especially those in single-income households. Applicants must not be in default on previous student loans or other federal aid. Men born after Dec. 31, 1959 and at least 18 years of age must be registered with Selective Service.

Graduate Assistantships
The Department of Educational Technology (not the Office of Financial Aid) has a limited number of Graduate Assistantships available each year for full-time on-campus students. Awards may consist of a stipend, a fee waiver, or a combination. Applications are due by March 1 for assistantships that begin in the fall. Assistantships typically are awarded for one year but may be renewed for one additional year.
