The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction, with an area of specialization in Educational Technology, requires 66 credits. This is a blended program, requiring a mix of online and campus-based courses. With careful advanced planning, a fully online program can be developed using transfer credits from other online programs.

Other Curricular Requirements (all online)
Coursework in Educational Technology fulfills the 23-26 credits of area of specialization (students can apply credits from the Master's in Educational Technology toward this purpose--discuss with your advisor). Students then take a comprehensive exam (1 credit) and write a dissertation for 9-12 credits.

Application and Admission Requirements

Applicants are required to submit to the Graduate College:

  • An application (https://cedar.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/apply.asp)
  • Minimum GRE scores of 1000 combined in verbal and quantitative, and 4.2 in analytical, taken within the last seven years.
  • Boise State Ed Tech graduates already have transcripts on file. Other applicants have to provide official transcripts showing completion of a master’s degree.
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Completed Master's degree, 33 units minimum.

Applicants are required to submit—at the same time—the following materials to the College of Education Teacher Education Graduate Programs Coordinator:

  1. A letter of application which includes
    • A description of professional experiences and the relevance of those experiences to doctoral study in education
    • A statement of career goals
    • A statement of interest in a particular area of specialization (i.e., educational technology).
    • A current resume or vitae.

  2. A sample of recent scholarly and/or professional writing that includes references and is preferably written in APA style (Master’s thesis or project, scholarly papers, project reports, publications, grant proposals, etc.).

  3. Three letters of reference attesting to the applicant’s commitment to doctoral study in education, professional effectiveness, potential for influencing education, scholarly abilities and dispositions, personal and professional integrity, and any other information that will help the selection committee make an informed decision.

Application deadlines:

  • February 15 for summer semester
  • April 15 for fall semester
  • September 15 for spring semester
