What Is Educational Technology?

Our Mission

The Department of Educational Technology supports the study and practice of facilitating and improving learning of a diverse population by creating, using, managing, and evaluating appropriate technological processes and resources in K-20 educational environments. Believing technology is a tool that enhances and expands the educational environment, we promote the use of current and emergent technologies for teaching and learning in a dynamic global society. Educational technologists are leaders and innovators, serving in institutions of higher education, public or private school settings, federal, state, or local educational agencies, and educational organizations in the private sector.

Educational Technology is an innovative way to design, deliver, facilitate, and manage instruction for learners of all ages, whether it is face-to-face in a classroom, online, or a combination of methods. In our master's and graduate certificate programs, we offer instruction online to students around the world, using inquiry and project-based education. Our classes are typically hosted in Blackboard or other learning management system, and we integrate a variety of additional synchronous and asynchronous communication tools (such as blogs, wikis, desktop video conferencing, and virtual world environments) to support your overall learning experience. You will interact with peers and faculty throughout your coursework, and establish a professional network to support you throughout your career. Course assignments are typically customized to your specific work environment--you can apply your learning today!

In Educational Technology at Boise State, you'll take courses in technology integration into the classroom, web design, flash, theory and skills of multimedia development, program evaluation, web-based video, virtual worlds for learning, instructional design, online teaching, online course design, project-based learning, educational games and simulations, grant writing, and much more.

EDTECH at Boise State. It's much more than audio-visual add-ons. It's a way of engaging learners in class activities, empowering them to think, supporting them to self-direct their own learning and career paths, as well as the learning of others.
