Master of Educational Technology (M.ET.)

This is a research-oriented, theory-based degree program designed to prepare students for advanced studies in educational technology.

NOTE: BSU is in the planning phases of a Ph.D. program tentatively planned for launch in 2010. We have not received approval for the program at this time.

This is a practitioner-oriented, application-based degree program designed to improve practice in teaching, training, and instructional design in traditional and online settings.

Provides expertise in:

  • Effective use of technology tools in the classroom
  • Online teaching
  • E-learning design
  • School technology coordination

This degree will benefit those seeking opportunities in:

  • Traditional schools: classroom teaching, faculty development specialists, district technology coordinators, and instructional designers.
  • Online schools: online teachers in K-12 virtual schools, directors, assistants, and curriculum coordinators, and instructional designers.
  • Higher education and vocational schools: online teachers, distance education content specialists, instructional designers.

  • A minimum grade-point average of 3.0 (out of 4.0)
  • A combined Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative) and 4.2 in analytical
  • A 500-word personal statement

Culminating activity: (6 credits)
Students conduct and defend an approved research thesis. Allow a minimum of one year to complete the thesis process.

NOTE:  M.S. students can also earn a graduate certificate, but they must take one extra course for a total of 36 credits to finish both programs.

Culminating activity: (3 credits)
Students prepare and defend a comprehensive portfolio of their work in the program. Enrollment in a portfolio course is required during the final semester of the program.

NOTE: By their choice of electives, M.ET. students may develop a specialization leading to a graduate certificate in (1) Technology integration, (2) Online teaching, or (3) School technology coordination.
